Hilco Global APAC are supporting the RideWest Campaign for 2022 as official sponsors, raising funds for Royal Flying Doctors Service.

Ridewest is a bi-annual 1300km ride to raise money for the amazing RFDS Wellbeing Out West team who provide mental health services to rural and remote communities in regional Queensland.

Michael Hayes was introduced to RideWest and the work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service after reading their paper “Mental Health in Rural and Remote Communities”. Being a native Queenslander, to learn that remote Australians experience suicide at 2x the rate of the city, yet access mental health services at a fifth of the rate of city people, he jumped on board as a shareholder of Hilco Global APAC for sponsorship.

The Ridewest team saw a need to continue the work of RFDS, and started a team ride to raise awareness and funds; in 2022 the course will span 1311km from Brisbane to Longreach through terrain that showcases regional Queensland, stopping in remote local towns over 8 days. Those who do not ride are encouraged to sponsor a rider or team if they have the means to do so, in turn helping the Royal Flying Doctors Service continue the work on the Wellbeing Out West Program.

Wellbeing Out West provides free mental health education, one-on-one counselling and support to people living and working in remote and rural parts of Queensland, with a focus on the North West, Central West and South West.

The service targets anyone experiencing tough times because of worsening rural adversity out west. Mental Health Clinicians travel to their clients and often deliver services at community based mental health workshops, pit-stop health checks, or via training for remote station managers and staff.
